On-site fabrications are required whenever a trench is to form a corner or junction. All half meter polymer concrete channels have drill-out details on the side to aid the formation of corners and T junctions but all channels can be cut and fabricated to create the desired layout. ACO offers an in-house fabrication service or simple fabrications can be produced on site by the contractor.

Note : When cutting sections of polymer concrete channel, protective eyeglasses, gloves and a respirator mask are recommended.

T junctions
T junctions are when an opening is cut into the side of one channel and another channel is butted up to this opening

Measure, verify and mark area to cut.
Position channels together and check measurements - make additional markings as required.
Mark outline or area to be
removed - maintain integrity of
grate seat.

Use diamond blade or masonry saw remove sections/areas of channel not required.

Prepare surfaces for bonding by
scuffing with a concrete/masonry
disc grinder.

Position pieces together and
bond using an appropriate 2-part rigid epoxy (or ACO Bond) to bond exterior and interior joints.

Miter Joints
Miter joints are made by sawing the channels to the desired angle and butting them together

Measure, verify and mark area of trench unit where junction is to occur.
Example 90 degree joint - Cut a 45 degree angle (See Detail “A”) all the way through the channel body.
Prepare surfaces for bonding by scuffing with a concrete / masonry disc grinder.

Position pieces together and
bond using an appropriate 2-part rigid epoxy (or ACO Bond) to bond exterior and interior joints.

Once epoxy has set measure
units for grate length.

Straight cut grates (See details
“B”). Butt joints are preferable as they provide greater load bearing capacity.

Fiberglass fabrications
Fabrications for fiberglass products follow a similar process as above, except a fiberglass repair kit should be used to give joints maximum strength and durability.

For T junctions frame must be shortened on the channel butting up to allow the channel bodies to meet and bond.
For best results, prior to fiber- glass repair kit, seal external and internal joints using a 2-part rigid epoxy
Fiberglass repair kit will give the joint maximum strength and durability
