Food Processing & Packaging
Integrating ACO drainage systems with the facility operations can help processing facilities prevent microbial, chemical and physical contaminants from affecting products. ACO drains are durable, hygienic and easy to clean making them a perfect solution for food processing environments. ACO hygienic designed drains allow food processing facilities to proactively manage the facility sanitation process. Hygienically designed drains can eliminate many safety problems while reducing cleaning times.

Case Studies
-
Gate Gourmet
Berkeley, MissouriACO BoxDrain was installed across Gate Gourmet’s kitchens and cart wash areas to meet strict sanitation in a high throughput food service environment. The stainless steel system resists frequent washdowns and corrosion, and tailored layouts with grate options align with traffic patterns to deliver durable, low maintenance drainage. -
San Antonio Food Bank
San Antonio, TexasACO BoxDrain was installed throughout the San Antonio Food Bank’s new culinary building and cold storage areas to deliver hygienic stainless drainage. The system resists corrosion and harsh cleaners, withstands heat, and cleans quickly, matching the equipment aesthetic. ACO partnered in design with drawings to tailor runs and details. -
Suntado Dairy
Burley, IdahoACO Stainless Push-fit Pipe System was installed at Suntado Dairy, replacing heavy cast iron with a longer-lasting, hygienic stainless solution. The push-fit design eliminated welding and saved about 200 labor hours, accelerating installation and reducing downtime while providing corrosion-resistant performance for dairy operations.
Considerations
Loading
- Parking areas will need to withstand frequent car and truck traffic, a drainage system and grate with a minimum Load Rating of Class C or higher is recommended
- Delivery areas will need to withstand truck and forklift traffic, a system and grate with a minimum Load Rating of Class E is recommended. Drains located in areas where vehicles turn or stop should also consider these additional dynamic loads
- Production areas may be designed to locate the drain outside of forklift/pallet truck routes, consider occasional traffic such as dumpsters, maintenance equipment etc when deciding load rating
Application
- Hygienic solutions are most likely required and a stainless steel channel and grate should be considered.
- Hydraulics should be able to manage wash down water and any spills
- Wash down water may contain food acids and/or cleaning agents and corrosion resistance of both the channel and grate should be considered
- The presence of solids, grease, and oils may require grease traps and/or sediment separators
- Slip resistance and ADA compliance may also be required
