Considerations
Loading
- For pedestrian only areas, a system and grate with a minimum Load Rating of Class A is recommended.
- Parking areas will need to withstand frequent car and truck traffic, a drainage system and grate with a minimum Load Rating of Class C or higher is recommended
- Delivery areas will need to withstand truck and forklift traffic, a system and grate with a minimum Load Rating of Class E is recommended. Drains located in areas where vehicles turn or stop should also consider these additional dynamic loads
- Production areas may be designed to locate the drain outside of forklift/pallet truck routes, consider occasional traffic such as dumpsters, maintenance equipment etc when deciding load rating
Application
- Hygienic solutions are most likely required and a stainless steel channel and grate should be considered.
- Chemical and heat resistance may be necessary and a stainless steel channel and grate should be considered. Aquaduct custom trench drains are also available for unique applications
- Hydraulics should be able to manage wash down water and any spills
- Wash down water may contain acids/alkalis and/or cleaning agents and corrosion resistance of both the channel and grate should be considered
- The presence of solids, grease, and oils may require grease traps and/or sediment separators
- Slip resistance and ADA compliance may also be required
