Fire Departments

Fire Departments require heavy duty drainage solutions to meet the demands of heavy vehicles – such as water trucks – and to provide a safe, slip-free environment. Trench drains provide an even floor with minimal slope that is safer for firefighters inside and outside of fire stations.

Case Studies

  • Fair Fax Fire & Rescue

    Fair Fax Fire & Rescue

    Herndon, Virginia
ACO FlowDrain FG200 was installed along the center of Fairfax County Fire & Rescue’s fire engine bays to capture washdown water. Located outside wheel paths, the system could use Load Class E rather than F, delivering compliant, cost-effective drainage while keeping bay floors clear and safe for operations.

Considerations

Loading

  • Extraordinary heavy loads may be present and require a drainage system and grate with a minimum Load Rating of Class F
  • Monolithic systems (Monoblok) or those cast into the slab (Qmax) may be required to withstand dynamic loads

Application

  • High capacity intake grates may be required if large volumes are present
  • Wastewater from vehicle washdown may contain hydrocarbons and post collection treatment may be necessary
  • Slip resistant grates may be required in pedestrian access areas

Areas with large run-off volumes may be ideal for modular water storage such as ACO StormBrixx
