Brooklyn Battery Tunnel

Brooklyn Battery Tunnel

Brooklyn, New York

The Brooklyn–Battery Tunnel is a two-tube tolled tunnel connecting Brooklyn and Manhattan by bypassing the East River. It is the longest continuous underwater vehicular tunnel in North America.

Problem:

As the four existing drainage installation (entries and exits) were perpendicular to traffic, it was decided that the grated drainage would need to be replaced to increase safety and the lifespan of the drainage.

ACO Solution:
  • MonoBloc HD200 (1,312 linear feet)

MonoBloc provides monolithic polymer concrete drainage, which removes the need for grating while continuing to supply the application with flooding protection and road safety. Due to the nature of the replacement, design of the channels, and experience of the crew, all construction was completed in a single night.
