Highways & Bridges
The success of transportation projects rely on quality product solutions and exceptional service that ensures many variables such as load ratings, traffic and speed are taken into consideration. Roads and transportation hubs require solutions engineered for their specific needs. ACO offers specialized drainage solutions for bridges, highways, and surface roads able to handle constant traffic.

Case Studies
-
Circuit of the Americas – Formula 1 Race Track
Austin, TexasACO Qmax 225 was installed at the Formula One circuit in Austin, TX to deliver high-capacity track drainage. The ductile iron intake slot and robust channel design withstand extreme vehicle loads and lateral forces, rapidly evacuating water to maintain safety and performance during racing and wet conditions. -
Executive Housing Development
Santa Cruz, CaliforniaOur ACO Wildlife Fencing and Climate Tunnel were installed at the Executive Housing Development in Santa Cruz, CA to guide the protected Santa Cruz Long-toed Salamander safely to breeding ponds. Recycled plastic tunnel entrances and barrier systems ensure safe passage, meeting conservation requirements for this exclusive hillside community. -
F1 Miami Grand Prix
Miami, FloridaACO MonoBloc HD200 was installed at the Miami F1 circuit to rapidly capture and redirect rainwater along the track perimeter. The one-piece design withstands extreme vehicle loads, maintaining consistent surface conditions, reducing hydroplaning risk, and enhancing safety and performance during wet weather. -
Government Bridge
Davenport, IowaACO BridgeDrain was installed on the Government Bridge to manage deck runoff. Scuppers collect water at the surface and tie into the existing pipe network, helping prevent ponding and deicing chemical buildup while simplifying maintenance and extending deck service life. -
Huguenot Road Bridge
Richmond, VirginiaACO BridgeDrain was installed at the Huguenot Road Bridge to remove stormwater from the deck. Discrete scuppers capture runoff and discharge away from the surface, reducing splash and spray and improving safety during rain. -
I-75 Highway
Flint, MichiganACO TraffikDrain 100 was installed along an 8-mile stretch of I-75 near Flint, MI to eliminate ponding on a flat roadway. Continuous trench runs with high-intake ductile iron grates and cast-in rails deliver rapid water evacuation and heavy-duty performance, improving safety while reducing grading costs. -
Stackpole Road
Somersworth, New HampshireACO MonoBloc HD200 was retrofitted at the Stackpole Road intersection to reduce ponding and improve safety. The monolithic polymer concrete design resists freeze–thaw and has no removable parts. Simple, brace-free installation without grates minimized downtime, delivering a durable, cost-effective drainage solution. -
State Route 23
Chillicothe, OhioACO TraffikDrain 100 was installed in the center median of the Route 23 bypass in Chillicothe, OH to prevent ponding on a flat roadway. High-intake grates and large flume outlets deliver fast drainage, while ductile iron grates and cast-in rails withstand heavy traffic for safer operations. -
Stirling Road
Cooper City, FloridaACO MonoBloc HD200 was installed along a 2,000-foot stretch of Stirling Road in Cooper City, FL to prevent ponding and roadway flooding. The monolithic polymer concrete trench drain captures runoff along the south side, improving safety and keeping travel lanes clear during heavy rain. -
Ventana Way Seascape Uplands Oceanview Residential Development
Aptos, CaliforniaOur ACO Climate Tunnel and Wildlife Fencing were installed at Seascape Uplands in Santa Cruz, CA to enable safe migration of the protected Santa Cruz Long-toed Salamander. The slotted-surface tunnels and barrier fencing guide amphibians across the development without injury, meeting conservation requirements for this exclusive hillside community. -
Veterans Memorial Bridge
Cleveland, OhioACO SlabDrain H100K was specified for the Veterans Memorial Bridge refurbishment to remove rainfall before it reached travel lanes. Its 4-inch overall depth met strict profile limits, delivering shallow, continuous drainage that reduces slip hazards for motorists and pedestrians along the bridge deck.
Considerations
Loading
- Extraordinary heavy loads may be present and require a drainage system and grate with a minimum Load Rating of Class F
- Monolithic systems (Monoblok) or those cast into the slab (Qmax) may be required to withstand dynamic loads
Application
- High capacity intake grates may be required as large volumes are present and tolerance for short-term ponding is low
- Wastewater from may contain hydrocarbons and post collection treatment may be necessary
- Bridge decks often require products with minimal weight – ACO BridgeDrain is a lightweight fiberglass scupper system designed specifically for bridge applications
- Aquaduct custom trench drains are also available for unique applications
Areas with large run-off volumes may be ideal for modular water storage such as ACO StormBrixx
