Airports & Train Stations
Airports and Train Stations have a wide range of requirements for their drainage applications. Runways, tarmacs, and loading bays require extreme heavy duty tolerances for massive vehicles. Airport terminals and train stations see constant high volume pedestrian foot traffic. ACO products are ideal for meeting the regulatory and reliability needs of transportation infrastructure.

BNA Concourse D Expansion
Nashville, TennesseeNashville International Airport (BNA) has provided service to flights entering and leaving Nashville since 1937. The airport includes Joint Base Berry Field, home base of the Tennessee Army National Guard. Problem: Expansion to Concourse D’s airside required modular drainage that could withstand 200,000 lb loads. ACO Solution: PowerDrain… Read More -
Dallas/Fort Worth International Airport
Dallas, TexasDallas/Fort Worth International Airport, also known as DFW Airport, is the primary international airport serving the Dallas/Fort Worth metropolitan area. It is the largest hub for American Airlines, which has its headquarters near the airport. Problem: An aircraft fueling ramp at Terminal D at Dallas/Fort Worth International Airport needed to… Read More -
Henderson Executive Airport – Quail Air Center
Henderson, NevadaRibeiro Company-owned Quail Air Centers provide hangars and fuel service to private aviators. Their services at the Henderson Executive Airport provide an alternative to and minimize traffic at the nearby Harry Reid International Airport Problem Additional hangars were constructed onsite, each needing their own localized drainage to prevent stormwater from… Read More -
McCarran International Airport
Las Vegas, NevadaACO FlowDrain FG200 was installed at McCarran International Airport to rapidly remove surface water across key airside areas. More than 500 linear feet with ductile iron grates provide high-capacity, durable drainage at multiple collection points, improving safety and operations in this high-traffic environment. -
Pittsburgh International Airport
Pittsburgh, PennsylvaniaACO StormBrixx 900 SD was installed beneath the Cargo 4 parking and near the runway at Pittsburgh International Airport to manage surface stormwater. The rigid, modular system eased backfilling, delivered high storage in a compact footprint, met permitting requirements, and was supported on site by ACO throughout installation. -
Salt Lake Airport – Deicing Pad
Salt Lake City, UtahSalt Lake City International Airport is a civil-military airport about 4 miles west of downtown Salt Lake City, Utah, United States. The airport is the closest commercial airport for more than 2.5 million people. Problem: The Salt Lake City Airport construction project added a vital lifeline to airport operations by… Read More
Considerations
Loading
- Airside areas see extraordinary heavy loads and require a drainage system and grate with a minimum Load Rating of Class F
- Monolithic systems (Monoblok) or those cast into the slab (Qmax) may be required to withstand dynamic loads
- For pedestrian only areas in terminals and landside, a system and grate with a minimum Load Rating of Class A is recommended. In areas where wheeled carts/suitcases are likely a higher load rating should be considered
- Parking areas for car traffic will require a drainage system and grate with a minimum Load Rating of Class C or higher is recommended
Application
- High capacity intake grates may be required if large volumes are present
- Wastewater from vehicle washdown may contain hydrocarbons and post collection treatment may be necessary
- Food preparation environments may require Hygienic solutions and a stainless steel channel and grate should be considered for these areas, along with appropriate grease traps and/or sediment separators
- ADA compliant and/or slip resistant grates may be required in pedestrian access areas
- Aquaduct custom trench drains are also available for unique applications
Areas with large run-off volumes may be ideal for modular water storage such as ACO StormBrixx
