Case Studies
-
Ameris Bank Amphitheatre
ACO KlassikDrain KS100 was retrofitted in the seating area to eliminate ponding. ADA-compliant ductile iron grates handle heavy foot traffic and equipment carts, while QuickLok® fasteners secure the grates and speed access for routine maintenance. -
Avalon Harbor East
ACO Heel-Resistant Brickslot 100 created a low profile drainage barrier between the waterfront walkway and the planting strip. The heel resistant slot blends with the hardscape and handles heavy foot traffic near restaurants, hotels, offices, and the Carey Business School along the Patapsco River. -
Baltimore Peninsula
ACO KlassikDrain K50 was installed across pedestrian areas at Baltimore Peninsula to manage stormwater during heavy rain. The low profile channel and pedestrian safe grates provide discreet, efficient drainage that reduces ponding and improves walkability, enhancing the district’s resilience without distracting from the waterfront streetscape. -
Boston Children’s Museum
ACO KlassikDrain K100 with perforated steel grates was installed to limit runoff into Fort Point Channel and support stormwater reuse goals. Galvanized edges butt neatly to pavers, while locked ADA-compliant grates and minimal pipework simplify maintenance and keep pedestrian areas safe. -
Golden Gate Bridge
ACO Brickslot blends with brick pavers at the Golden Gate Bridge Visitor Experience Center, feeding a polymer concrete channel to move water away quickly while keeping the setting visually uncluttered. -
Great Lakes National Cemetery
ACO FlowDrain FG200 was installed at Great Lakes National Cemetery to manage stormwater and minimize ponding. Its hydraulic performance evacuates runoff quickly, protecting walkways and ceremonial areas and maintaining safe, accessible grounds during heavy rain. -

-
Hall of Justice
ACO KlassikDrain KS200 with 647Q stainless grates manages runoff around entrances and civic walkways at the Hall of Justice. The stainless finish resists corrosion, the heel-safe pattern supports accessibility, and modular channels simplify maintenance while preserving the building’s formal aesthetic. -
Lake St Clair Metropark
Our ACO Climate Tunnel was installed on a highway near Lake St. Clair Metropark in Michigan to address wildlife crossing challenges. Working with the client, ACO delivered a solution that improved road safety while enabling safe wildlife passage near this major waterway connecting Lake Erie and Lake Huron. -
Red Rocks Amphitheater
ACO SlabDrain H100K with Type 478Q grates was installed at Red Rocks Amphitheatre to intercept runoff where depth is limited. The threshold trench drain manages rain and snowmelt along pedestrian paths and seating, preserving accessibility and safety in this high-altitude, high-traffic venue. -
St. John Neumann Church
-
Sundance Square
ACO Brickslot 100 surrounds the jetted fountain areas at Sundance Square to capture overspray and rainfall. The narrow slot integrates with the paver field and allows easy cleanout for this high traffic public space. -
Times Square
ACO Aquaduct was custom-designed for the reconstruction of Times Square in New York City to meet strict physical and aesthetic requirements. Collaborating with Snohetta, ACO engineered a unique drainage solution that blends seamlessly with the iconic public space while delivering reliable performance in a high-traffic environment -
United States Institute of Peace
ACO Brickslot 100 provides discreet pedestrian area drainage that does not distract from brick pavers or the landscape. The low profile slot supports accessible, secure circulation on this high visibility civic campus. -

Considerations
Loading
- For pedestrian only areas, a system and grate with a minimum Load Rating of Class A is recommended. If wheeled carts are likely for deliveries then a higher load rating should be considered
- Parking areas will need to withstand frequent car and truck traffic, a drainage system and grate with a minimum Load Rating of Class C or higher is recommended
- Areas for delivery/maintenance vehicles will need to withstand heavy vehicle traffic, a system and grate with a minimum Load Rating of Class E is recommended. Drains located in areas where vehicles turn or stop should also consider these additional dynamic loads.
Application
- Aesthetics and grate choice or use of a discreet slotted system may be a priority
- ADA compliant, Heelsafe, and/or slip resistant grates may be required in pedestrian areas
- Athletic fields and play areas should consider track and field drainage and accessories from the ACO Sport range
Areas with large run-off volumes may be ideal for modular water storage such as ACO StormBrixx
